The U.S. Senate unanimously voted to confirm Hinton-native Sylvia Mathews Burwell to be director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget April 24.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., issued a statement to congratulate her.

"As Congress works to put our country on course for a strong economic future, I am so pleased that Sylvia Mathews Burwell will have a prominent seat at the table as director of OMB, helping to steer our budget and economic policy in the right direction," Rockefeller said in his statement.

He said he has known Burwell and her family for many years, and he proudly supported her career.

"Sylvia's abundant knowledge and budget experience makes her the right person to take on our country's fiscal challenges."

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., officially introduced Sylvia Mathews Burwell to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which began nomination hearings April 9.

President Barack Obama nominated her for the position in March.

She worked on President Bill Cilnton's budget in the 1990s and spent time at both the Treasury Department and OMB, where she served as deputy director.
