McKinley reintroduces bill to streamline black lung benefits

Posted: Updated:

Rep. David B. McKinley, R-W.Va., announced April 26 that he has introduced the Burdensome Paperwork Reduction for our Miners Act.

The act would direct the Secretary of Labor to conduct a review of forms required to obtain benefits under the Federal Black Lung Benefits Program.

"Upwards of 50 pages are required at times merely to apply for the benefits," said McKinley. "That's just wrong, both for our miners who need the benefits and for the taxpayers who foot the cost."

McKinley said he heard during roundtable discussions in the northern West Virginia First District he represents from constituents who are concerned about the amount and redundancy of materials required when filling out paperwork for federal black lung benefits.
