RALEIGH COUNTY -

The chase is ongoing from Saturday night in Raleigh County for 2 armed suspects.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, two suspects entered the Sunoco Store on Appalachian Heights Rd. around 8:30 p.m. with a handgun.

They took merchandise and cash before running away. A bloodhound was used to track the suspects to the point where they got into a vehicle and drove off.

Security cameras are not required to be at every gas station and convenience store, but one Beckley resident said they should be.

"Whether it's a fender bender in the parking lot or anything like that, it's for our own protection, it's not because they want to get in our business, it's because they want to know exactly what happened," said Beckley's Sarah Sweatte.

Sweatte told 59 News she would be in favor or clerks and cashiers being armed behind the counter, if they were properly trained.

"Just like with any type of gun control, I think they should go through some sort of class or follow a certain type of protocol for it because not just anyone should have a gun," Sweatte said.

The Raleigh County Sheriff's Office told 59 News, so far in 2013, 39 robberies have been reported in Raleigh County. If this robbery or any robbery were fueled by pills or drugs, Sweatte said prevention and awareness are the best ways to combat prescription abuse.

"Basically awareness of teenagers abusing it at a very young age, and different precautions and parents being involved in their kids' lives, also I know it's not just a young problem, it's also adults and older people, anyone can abuse anything," added Sweatte.

If you have any information on the suspects you're asked to call the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department at (304) 255-9300.

Police have been in hot pursuit of a suspect in Raleigh County since Saturday evening.

According to Raleigh County dispatchers, two suspects robbed the Sunoco on Appalachian Heights Road in Bradley around 8:30 P.M. of cash and merchandise.

The suspects left the store on foot.

An RCSO bloodhound was used to track the suspects and discovered that they got into an unknown vehicle and left the scene.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
