Nearly 15 years after the first engine came off the assembly line, Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia will mark its 10 millionth unit during a ceremony May 1.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller will be one of the officials speaking at the ceremony at the plant near the Putnam County town of Buffalo. He will be joined by Toyota Motor Corporation Honorary Chairman Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda and other dignitaries in celebrating the occasion.

The Putnam County plant manufactures 4-cylinder and V6 engines for Toyota operations in Indiana and Canada. It also produces automatic transmissions and gears for plants in Kentucky, Indiana and Canada.

The plant began production in late 1998.
