Raleigh County School Board looks into a school year extension

Posted: Updated:

Raleigh County Board of Education is looking into a possible school year extension from 43 weeks to 48 weeks.  The goal is to help deal with snow days taking away time in the classroom.

The Raleigh school's calendar committee has presented two options for the 2013-14 school year and each have students coming in for a longer term.

Some parents of students don't think it's such a bad idea.  Parent Brandi Ball said education is really important and kids need to get the right amount of time in class.

Other people in the community think time doesn't need to be added.

Bob Babineau said "I'm just not satisfied that more hours is going to give us a more quality student."

Employees of the schools are encouraged to vote online through www.edline.net.
