Beckley Police are investigating a stabbing that happened at a Raleigh County hospital on Wednesday, May 1.  The incident happened just after 1 p.m. at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.  Two women were reportedly arguing over visitation of a patient when one of them pulled out a pocket knife and began stabbing the other.

According to officers with the Beckley Police Department, the victim was stabbed 4 or 5 times in the face, neck and arms.  Her injuries are reportedly non-life threatening.

Dee Dee Johnson was arrested for the crime.  She was taken to the Southern Regional Jail and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

People in Raleigh County said a hospital is the last place they would go and expect violence.

Joseph Isaacs said, "I can't believe something like that would go down in a hospital really but I guess it's a blessing that it did happen in a hospital so she could get immediate medical attention."

BARH CEO Rocco Massey said the hospital was shocked and immediately went into lock-down mode.

Massey said, "Yes it absolutely was shocking because that's not something we typically deal with but unfortunately today it seems like we have more and more of these things popping up and all the more reason for us to be well prepared in order to deal with those things."

He said the staff there is trained to deal with emergencies of all kids and every single employee wears a badge to outline their emergency codes.
