A new prison in North Central West Virginia needs 300 people to fill open positions.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller's office announced the federal corrections facility will be the site of a May 3 job fair hosted by the Bureau of Prisons. The Federal Correction Institution is the third facility at the Hazelton site, and the Democrat helped secure federal funds for construction of the new facility. Entry level positions available will include correctional officers, clerical staff, case managers and health related personnel.

"The new federal prison facility in Hazelton has the potential to generate millions of dollars for Preston County and the surrounding area, and will help create 300 new jobs in the region," Rockefeller said in a statement. "These jobs will help families who are looking for work, improve West Virginia's economy and address the overcrowding of federal prisons. But putting skilled West Virginians to work at this facility, it will also help increase overall safety in our federal prison system and give Preston County the economic boost it deserves."

The FCC Hazelton Training Center is located at 1640 Sky View Drive in Bruceton Mills. The job fair will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 2:30 p.m.

Additional job fairs could be scheduled for later this year, depending on how many applications are received, according to information from Rockefeller's office. When all staff members are hired, the facility could have a projected economic impact of $35 million to $40 million in the Preston County region.

Jobs at the facility are advertised at usajobs.gov.
