Beckley Motorsports Park revs up for races

Friday nights are a big deal at Beckley Motorsports Park. "I like to say that we have a party here and a race breaks out," manager Joe Jackson describes his facility.

With two sides of the track, one that serves beer and the other that's non-alcoholic, the atmosphere caters to people ready to party, and to family fun.

"We try to have family night sometimes, we have dollar hot dog night throughout the year, but we really try to make it a fan friendly atmosphere."

The speedway is a venue not only set up for entertainment, but also safety. Jackson said there are crashes every single night they race but they have ambulances on stand by and a fire truck available just in case.

The Jackson's son Michael also races, and has since he was 12.  His car is one of 75 cars that are expected to compete and he wouldn't have it any other way. "It's definitely my favorite thing to do in the whole world, there's nothing else I'd rather do."

The checkered flags will be waving every Friday as the races will be held weekly through September.  NASCAR's Kenny Wallace will make an appearance May 17th.
