White Sulphur community gets hit by rising waters

Posted: Updated:

The past three days of rain came down harder in White Sulphur Springs than any other area.

The rain came down and the creek went up, foot by foot until it reached Shirley Linkous' yard.

She said, "When that last rain came and the higher it got... it was very scary."

A wet yard is nothing new to Linkous but this time she says was different.

She said, "We watched really closely but this is the first time it came close to flooding."

Linkous said her back yard around her deck was fully intact when she moved in seven years ago and now its barely there.

She said her and everyone else living on her street took action immediately and started moving their belongings across the road.

She said, "Yeah it was scary especially when it kept getting higher and higher and we didn't know when  it was going to quit."

She said she feels lucky to live in a town like White Sulphur Springs after members of the police department, fire department, and her neighbors came over to help with her property.
