Sweet treats to fill Beckley streets

Posted: Updated:

A chance to indulge your sweet tooth is coming to uptown Beckley on Saturday, May 11.  The seventh annual Sweet Treats Dessert Celebration will be held in Word Park on Neville Street from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Participating businesses and organizations will serve up 100 dessert samples.  There are 18 groups and businesses that are signed up for the event.  Desserts include peanut butter balls, cookies, brownies, chocolate-caramel apples, fudge, frozen yogurt, cinnamelts, blueberry lemon coffee cake, bread pudding, oatmeal pie and cupcakes among many others.  For $5 a person gets six sample tickets and a people choice ballot.  They will also be entered for a door prize drawing.

The event supports the United Way.  This year, Sweet Treats is being held in conjunction with Raleigh County Schools "Day of the Arts."  Groups from area schools will be performing from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  The concerts are free.

If there is rain - the event will be moved to the covered parking deck of the Beckley Intermodal Gateway. All uptown Beckley parking is free on the weekends.  For details check out the Beckley Events Facebook page.
