Newtown board to debate Sandy Hook School's future

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) -

Newtown officials could soon make a recommendation on what to do with the school where 20 first-graders and six educators were gunned down in December.

A taskforce of 28 town elected officials is scheduled to meet again Friday night. A consultant for the town says the panel is expected to vote on a recommendation for the school board.
The issue will eventually go before voters at a referendum.

The panel has narrowed the choices to three: renovating Sandy Hook Elementary School, building a new school on the same site or tearing it down and building a new school nearby.

The taskforce struggled last week to move forward with a recommendation.

Surviving students are attending classes at a remodeled school in neighboring Monroe that was renamed for Sandy Hook Elementary School.
