The unclaimed property online auction administered by West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue's office really has something for everyone.

A recent find was appraised for $14,000.

An 18-carat white gold ring with two-carat diamond surrounded by 10 smaller stones that add up to nearly another carat is waiting for a new home this month.

The auction runs May 15-30, and anyone is eligible to bid on the unclaimed property items left behind in safe deposit boxes throughout the state. To bid, visit wvtreasury.com.

"We're excited because you just don't see many rings like this," Perdue said in a news release. "To date, this is the highest appraisal an item offered in any of our auctions has every received.

"Go online and have a look – it can't hurt."

The ring came from a Hancock County safe deposit box, and once a general appraiser examined it, the appraiser determined that a specialized gemologist should have a look. The gemologist determined the diamond's size and clarity.

The May 15-30 auction also will include an April 1910 magazine called "The Moden Priscilla," and two tickets from the 1966 World Series.

Whatever funds come in from the auction will stay in the unclaimed property account while further attempts are made to find its rightful owner. According to information from Perdue's office, the auctions are necessary because of insufficient space to keep the items. The online auctions started in June 2011, and the office has had 40 auctions since then with every "lot," or item grouping having sold.

So far in Fiscal Year 2013, 900 lots have brought in $140,0710. Fiscal Year 2012 auctions brought in $88,392.
