Three of West Virginia University's online graduate programs have been named among the top five in U.S. News & Report's report of best online programs for veterans.

The first-ever report named WVU's School of Nursing master's program is ranked No. 3

WVU's online business programs were ranked No. 5, and the education programs also were ranked fifth.

WVU Dean of Extended Learning Sue Day-Perroots said in a news release the rankings were a great honor.

"It reflects our commitment to veterans and the quality of our online course delivery," Day-Perroots said.

Day-Perroots said Extended Learning had worked with WVU's Veterans Office and Student Support Services to increase awareness about the school's programs for veterans.

"We have been focused on attracting and serving veterans," she said.
The report included rankings for online bachelor's programs and online master's degree programs in business, education, engineering and nursing.

A school had to "demonstrate it took advantage of a wide range of government-backed programs that make credits portable and affordable to people with military experience," according to WVU's news release.

WVU has earned accolades for its commitment to veterans in a GIJobs magazine ranking as well as in two separate lists from Military Times.
According to WVU, more than 800 veterans, military personnel or their dependents currently are enrolled at the university.
