LEWISBURG -

Fighting Fires. It is an expensive undertaking.

Now, one volunteer fire department in Greenbrier County is getting some help.

Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller announced Wednesday federal funding for the Lewisburg Volunteer Fire Department.  More than 97-thousand dollars will be used to buy new safety equipment. 23 new self-contained breathing apparatuses will be purchased. Each firefighter has to wear one whenever entering a hazardous situation, like a fire.  The new items will replace out-of-date equipment and will help the volunteer firefighters breath clean oxygen while fighting a fire.

The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program that is administered by FEMA.
