A third person in less than a week has been sentenced in the Southern District of West Virginia for being a pedophile.

Steven Russell Helton, 21, of Beaver was sentenced in a Beckley federal court on Thursday, May 16.  Helton had collected more than 600 pictures and video of children have sex and performing sexual acts, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia's office.  Helton was arrested on Dec. 29, 2010.  He pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in January 2013.

Helton was sentenced to five years in federal prison.  When he gets out, he will face a lifetime of supervised release.

The Southern District of West Virginia had two other pedophiles sentenced in federal court this week.  On Tuesday, May 14 - Tracey Cooper, 38, of Giles, W.Va. was sentenced to three years in prison and 15 years of supervised release.  Cooper also had more than 600 pictures of child porn and was apparently trading them online with other pedophiles.  On Wednesday, May 15 - Jonathan Layne, 54, of Charleston was sentenced to 10 years in prison on child porn charges.

A total of 22 people have been convicted on child porn charges since January 2012.  The effort was part of initiative to combat child exploitation and abuse in the Southern District of West Virginia.
