The West Virginia Division of Highways announced on Thursday that road construction on U.S. Route 219 through Lewisburg would continue for two more weeks.

Lanes have been closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The construction was expected to wrap up on Friday, but WV DOH engineers said that the road repairs will now continue through Wednesday, June 12.  The schedule could change again due to bad weather or other unforeseen problems.

Road repairs will slow down traffic along a section of U.S. Route 219 in Lewisburg.

The West Virginia Division of Highways announced that one lane of Route 219 will be closed during the day starting on Monday, May 20 and running through Friday, May 24.  District Nine Maintenance Engineer, James Moore, said they will be working on road repair from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.  The lane closure will be from the intersection of Lee Street to the intersection of Montvue Drive.  That is the main strip of road that goes in front of Wal-Mart and under Interstate 64.

Moore said that while the construction is going on, the center turn lane will be used as the alternating north and southbound lanes.  Drivers are asked to watch for the traffic signs and use caution while traveling in the work zone.  Officials said that there will likely be delays, and people who travel the road are asked to allow for additional time to get to their destinations.

The Division of Highways expects the work to be completed by Friday, May 24, but bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances could charge that schedule.
