FAYETTEVILLE -

UPDATE Thursday, May 23:

The victim in Wednesday has been identified as Scott Wilson, 69, of Jumping Branch.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man is dead after an afternoon accident in Fayette County.

The two vehicle accident happened on WV Route 61 at 2:23 p.m. near Camp Branch Road.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found one of the drivers dead at the scene.

His body was sent to Tyree's Funeral home in Oak Hill.   The name of the driver isn't being released at this time, so family members can be notified.  We do know it was a 69-year-old man from Summers County.

The driver of the second vehicle, Jeffrey Hilewitz, 53, of Cannelton, was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center by HealthNet.  His condition is unknown right now.  No one else was involved in the accident.

Deputies continue to investigate the cause of the accident, but the preliminary investigation finds the vehicle driven by Hilewitz crossed the center line and struck the other vehicle head-on.   Its not known if alcohol played a factor in the crash.

WV Route 61 was closed down for more than an hour while fire departments extricated the drivers from the vehicles.
