MARION COUNTY -

Update:

The Division of Natural Resources said Monday that it will not file charges against a man who rescued a dog at Valley Falls State Park.

The park superintendent said a man was walking his dog between the first and second falls Saturday when the dog fell into the water.

The current took the dog over the falls. Bystander John Clark jumped in to save the dog and a rescue team was called in.

Clark said no swim zone or not it was something he had to do.

"It's just instinct. I seen that the animal was in need of help. Instinct just took over and I just did what I had to do," Clark said.

Clark thanks the community for all of its support over the past couple of days.

Original Story:

Three people could face charges after saving a dog at Valley Falls State Park Saturday afternoon.

The Valley Falls State Park Superintendent said a man was walking his dog between the first and second falls when the dog fell into the water.

The current took the dog over the falls and downstream across the Taylor County line.

John Clark, of Marion County, jumped into the water to rescue the dog.

The park superintendent said a rescue team was called in.

Winfield District Volunteer Fire Department eventually brought Clark and dog safely back to shore.

Clark and the dog owners could face charges for violating the Valley Falls no swim policy.

The Marion County Sheriffs Department and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will discuss the issue and make a decision whether or not to press charges over the next few days.
