FAYETTEVILLE -

The Fayette County Sheriffs Office is trying to find out how several counterfeit $20 bills got into the area.

A press release from Sheriff Steve Kessler says several fake bills were found when a local business took their weekend deposit to the bank on Monday, June 10. The Charleston office of the U.S. Secret Service says that more counterfeit bills were reported in Fayette County the previous week

There's no suspect at the time. Sheriffs believe that the bills may have been brought in by someone traveling through Fayette County.

Sheriff Kessler says that the easiest way to tell whether a bill is counterfeit or not is to hold it up to a light and look for the "ghost image."

Anyone with information about the fake money is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
