Oak Hill retail store site of latest break-in

Posted: Updated:

Just days after a Dollar General in Fayette County is robbed, a retail shop right across the street is the site of an overnight burglary.

Adkins Alley store owner, Shannon Adkins tells 59 News what she thought was a smash and grab actually turned out to be a little bit more suspicious early Wednesday morning.

"This person actually selected particular items which leads us to believe that he may have previously been in the store, and knew our inventory," Adkins said.

It's shocking enough to wake up and learn that your family business has been smashed into and robbed, but now the store owner is left thinking that she has actually interacted with this criminal before.

Adkins said the thief took cash and an array of random items throughout the store.

The store owners spent several hours Wednesday morning picking up pieces of broken glass.

They tell 59 News a robbery like this has a huge effect on such a small business.

"We go through break-ins and we try to recover and truly when small businesses get hit it's hard to recover from it," Adkins said.

Adkins said she didn't want to believe that crimes like this were plaguing her hometown.

"This is a community that I've grown up in, this is a community that I am raising my son in, and I expect more from the members of this community," she added.

No word yet on whether or not the burglary at Adkins Alley is related to a robbery earlier this week right across the street at Dollar General, but Oak Hill police are looking into a possible connection.
