    Delegate A. Benton "Ben" Chafin was elected to the Senate of Virginia, Tuesday. Chafin secured a Republican majority in the General Assembly upper chamber. Chafin will serve and represent the 38th District, succeeding former Senator Phil Puckett who resigned in June. Chafin defeated Democrat Mike Hymes and Independent Rick Mullins. Polls closed at 7 PM on Tuesday night.

UPDATE: Greenbrier County Sheriff's Deputies confirmed the body of a drowned man was found Friday morning in the Blue Bend swimming area.

A Forest Service employee first discovered personal items including a wallet of 53-year-old Thomas Michael Richter on Thursday morning.

Greenbrier County EMS contacted Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department who began investigating.

The Sheriff's department reached out to Richter's brother to locate him but he said Richter wasn't at home or at work.

On Thursday, Sheriff's Deputies attempted to put a dive team together but due to the inclement weather it was called off.

Friday morning the Greenbrier County Dive Team searched the area and located the body at 10:45am.

Richter's body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the incident.

 

 

Officials with the Greenbrier County Emergency Management office have confirmed that a man drowned at Blue Bend on Thursday.
