RALEIGH, N.C.-- Planned Parenthood Health Systems announced June 28 that Pamela Van Horn will join the organization as the West Virginia Director of Public Affairs.

Van Horn has more than 20 years of experience with political campaigns, advocacy, training and fundraising.

"For 96 years, Planned Parenthood has provided safe, high-quality health care and medically accurate reproductive health education to women, men and their families," Van Horn said.  "I am pleased to join an organization that is, without question, the most trusted provider of family planning services in the country."

Van Horn will focus on planning and implementing Planned Parenthood Health Systems grassroots organizing, lobbying and electoral advocacy programs in West Virginia.  She will serve as the primary public spokesperson and chief lobbyist representing PPHS to the state's government entities.

"Many West Virginians may not realize that Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest provider of birth control, sexually transmitted infection detection and prevention and breast health care," Van Horn said.  "Often their clinics are in chronically underserved communities and may be the primary source of health care for all living there, including men and children."

Before joining Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Van Horn served as the founding Executive Director of the West Virginia Democratic Legislative Council  which elects Democratic candidates to the state Legislature.  She also started the West Virginia Women Vote voter outreach program.  Prior to her work with the WVDLC, she was the state coordinator for Gov. Gaston Caperton's West Virginia Make it Shine, an environmental education and community clean-up program.  Van Horn is a small business owner and a graduate of Marshall University, the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce's Leadership West Virginia Program and The Women's Campaign School at Yale University.  She grew up in Lewisburg and lives in Charleston.
