    A sentencing hearing was held on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 for a Raleigh County man who pleaded guilty to illegally selling Oxycodone. In May, Gene "Butch" James, 44, of Crab Orchard admitted to charges of Distributing Oxycodone.

The West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism's online graduate program in Integrated Marketing Communications will offer a series of four online professional development courses this fall.

"Social Media Tools and Techniques," will be offered Aug. 5 through Sept. 9. Participants will learn about monitoring and engaging consumers through social media by examining tools, techniques and strategies within effective social media campaigns.

"The Importance of Web Analytics and Search Engine Marketing" will be offered Sept. 9 through Oct. 14. Participants will learn tools and techniques for measuring traffic, engagement and impact of online information.

"Event Marketing" will be offered Oct. 14 through Nov. 18. Participants will learn how to plan and execute events within an organization's marketing mix, as well as specific marketing tactics to help promote events.

"Higher Education Public Relations" will be offered Nov. 18 through Dec. 16. This course provides an overview of public relations strategies in higher education. Participants will examine best practices, tools and tactics for building the reputation of an institution and managing public relations issues.

Each course costs $500, or all four can be taken for $1,675.
