W.Va. abortion clinics decline to answer AG

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey says both of state's legal abortion clinics responded to letters he sent inquiring about their practices - but both refuse to answer his questionnaires.

The clinics had until Monday to respond.

Women's Health Center of West Virginia and Kanawha Surgicenter sent letters Tuesday.

Women's Health Center declined to answer questions because it is facing a lawsuit over an allegedly botched abortion but says it complies with all laws and regulations currently on the books.

Kanawha Surgicenter says it's concerned when any state official singles out a health care provider for scrutiny "for reasons unrelated to medical care and public health."

It, too, says it follows all applicable laws.

Morrisey says he'll continue investigating whether any regulatory changes are needed to ensure women are safe.
