Independence High School in need of coach after controversy

In March, Chuck Cooper, a Woodrow Wilson teacher was named as head football coach of Independence High School.

In July, he faced the Raleigh County Board of Education after being accused of having an inappropriate texting relationship with a female student and was then fired from his teaching and coaching jobs. Now the future of the Patriots football team is up in the air.

"Our position is posted, it went up this past Friday, it will come down July 15th.  Interviews will be conducted and we expect a recommendation to the board of education for a new football coach of Independence High School by July 23rd," said Raleigh County Superintendent Jim Brown.

Football season is coming up fast and so are practices, but until then Brown said the assistant coaches will be conducting pre-season activities.

A new chapter in Patriots football is coming up, while you won't see Cooper's name on the coaches list, you will see a name there soon.
