FAYETTEVILLE -

A large, loud party is broken up in Fayette County.

Fayette County sheriff's deputies tell 59 News several people were cited after they responded to a call of a large, unruly party in an open field near the Cunard area.

When deputies arrived, they found 300 to 400 people in the field.  There was a DJ set up with an elaborate sound system and deputies noted there was a substantial quantity amount of alcohol at the scene.   People ran into the woods once deputies arrived.

Six deputies, including two that were off duty but heard the call, responded to the scene.   Several people were ticketed for various misdemeanor offenses, including alcohol and controlled substance violations.   Three vehicles were towed from the scene.

Anyone underage was released to their parents or other responsible adults who were called.

There were people from Lewisburg, Wyoming County, Fayette County, Kanawha County, and Raleigh County at the party.   Several other people were from outside of the area, including people from Virginia, Tennessee and Texas.

"Apparently this was somewhat of a spontaneous gathering and word of this event was spread throughout the area through the use of social media,"  said Sheriff Kessler.   "This even was held in a primarily residential area and several area residents were disturbed by the loud music and the general disturbance caused by such a large crowd.  Although events like this are relatively rare in this area, this is not the first such incident we have responded to.  People need to be aware that events of this nature are subject to regulation and should be held in areas that are open to the public and which are designed for this type of event.   You can't just find an open field in a residential area and invite a few hundred of your closest friends to come out and party with you."
