MOUNT HOPE -

More than 80 boy scouts came to a cemetery Wednesday to clear years of grown up brush and they said they found tombstones more than 100 years old.

What looked like just a wooded hillside Wednesday morning is now on its way to becoming a historic cemetery, thanks to the young scouts who braved the heat all day chopping up bushes and trees around dozens of gravestones.

Community volunteers said people once came from out of town to visit relatives they knew were buried here.

"A lot of people come in and are in Mount Hope while they're visiting the cemetery so we're hoping to continue to attract those people and attract even more of them now that it's accessible," said volunteer Michael Stone.

Just down the street at the community center, about 40 scouts all the way from Los Angeles, California hauled out dumpsters full of trash clogging up the basement.

They told us helping the community while in town for the jamboree was the least they could do.

"It's kind of cool to be able to give back to the community that gave so much to the Summit because I understand that a lot of people volunteered to go up there and help," said Joey Bacon.

Despite the sun's rays beating down, all the scouts seemed thrilled to be helping.

"It's been really great working with the guys it's a great team building exercise along with helping out the community, I mean that's what scouts is all about," said Michael Stricker.
