Experts: Heat is the number one cause of weather-related deaths

Posted: Updated:

According to the national weather service, heat is the number one weather-related killer in the U.S.  More people die from heat-related deaths than tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes combined.

Experts say you should avoid long periods of time in the heat.  They also say you should try to stay indoors, even if you do not have air conditioning.

The elderly, children, and those with health issues are most at risk and should be very careful.

Drinking water and staying away from coffee and alcohol are the best things people can do to stay safe in the hot temperatures.
