    Emergency crews were called to the scene of a ATV accident, just before 10 pm Friday.According to Fayette County 911 the ATV was struck by a vehicle along the 1900 block of Rt 60 Anstead area of Fayette County.One person was transported by helicopter, to a local hospital for treatment, The extent of those injuries or what caused the accident is not yet known at this time.The Fayette County Sheriff Department is investigating.

CHARLESTON, WV -

Gerald W. Sutphin, a researcher, writer and historian, will present the lecture "West Virginia Rivers, Steamboats and River Improvements."

The presentation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Archives and History Library at the Culture Center, which is on the State Capitol Complex in Charleston.

Sutphin will make a visual presentation on West Virginia rivers that were improved by the invention and development of the Western River steamboat in 1811. He also will discuss how steam packets, towboats, ferries and showboats impacted the citizens and the growth of West Virginia.

Sutphin is recognized as one of the United States' foremost inland rivers and river transportation historians, according to the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.

He spent 20 years working for the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and since that time ahs been the owner/operator of a visual communication arts company for two decades. He specializes as a consultant in research, development and presentation of inland river projects such as museum exhibits, publications and motion picture productions.

Sutphin is the co-author of "Sternwheelers on the Great Kanawha River," and was researcher, writer and producer of the 30-minute DVD history "Two Hundred Years of Steamboating, 181102911." He also was researcher, writer and featured historian-on-film for "The Great Kanawha, An American Story."
