West Virginians will be competing for a new title at this year's State Fair of West Virginia.

The first-ever West Virginia's Strongest Mountaineer competition will get started at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 during the 89th annual state fair at the grandstand. West Virginia resident and 2006 World's Strongest Man Phil Pfister is expected to attend.

Events to be included in the competition include a truck pull, dead lift, log clean and press, farmer's handles and atlas stones. Entries for the competition are being taken at nastrongman.com, and the entry fees are not refundable.

There are separate men's and women's weight divisions, and competitors will be weighed in Aug. 8. All the competitors will be given a briefing on safety before the competition as well. Awards will be given for first, second and third place winners. The first place winners in open divisions will be invited to a round of national competitions.
