    Delegate A. Benton "Ben" Chafin was elected to the Senate of Virginia, Tuesday. Chafin secured a Republican majority in the General Assembly upper chamber. Chafin will serve and represent the 38th District, succeeding former Senator Phil Puckett who resigned in June. Chafin defeated Democrat Mike Hymes and Independent Rick Mullins. Polls closed at 7 PM on Tuesday night.

ELKINS, WV -

The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College will present bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys as the headline attraction for the Augusta Festival Concert Aug. 10.

The concert will start at 6 p.m. in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. The show will open with Joe Newberry & Friends followed by The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers at 7 p.m.

Stanley has been performing and recording bluegrass music for more than six decades, and among his best-known works are "Man of Constant Sorrow," and "Angel Band."

Stanley's contributions to the soundtrack for the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" earned him two Grammy awards in 2001, and his work with the Clinch Mountain Boys and Jim Lauderdale on "Lost in the Lonesome Pines" netted him another Grammy in 2002.

Stanley received the Living Legend award from the Library of Congress in 2006. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2000 and the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1992.

The Augusta Festival Concert is one of many events planned for the weekend of Aug. 9-11 to cap off a five-week summer session of music, dance, craft and folklore.

The Augusta Festival Dance is scheduled for 8 p.m. Aug. 9 in the open-air pvilion, and the Festival Gospel Sing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 in Robbins Chapel.
