U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld unveiled a program Aug. 8 in Wheeling aimed at educating student athletes about drugs, alcohol and social media.

The program, called "Project Future Two-a-Days," is for high school and college athletes. Ihlenfeld said the message focuses on athletes who have faced criminal penalties, suspensions/removal from teams for texts or social media posts along with athletes who have been affected by drug and alcohol abuse.

According to a news release from Ihlenfeld's office, this program takes off from "Project Future: The Right Prescription for West Virginia," which educates parents and children about prescribed medicine and synthetic and illegal drugs.

As part of Project Future Two-a-Days, Ihlenfeld and assistant U.S. attorney Stephen Vogrin will travel this month and next to speak to student athletes at the following schools throughout northern West Virginia: Wheeling Park High School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School, John Marshall High School, Hundred High School, Cameron High School, Oak Glen High School, Weir High School, Paden City High School, Brooke High School, Magnolia High School and Bridgeport High School.
