    A home went up in flames on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, bringing out firefighters from three departments. Crews from Fayetteville, Mount Hope and Oak Hill Fire Departments were sent to the scene at around 9:30 a.m. Officials report that there are no injuries in connection with the fire. There is no word on whether or not anyone lived at the home. 59News has a crew on the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.

CHARLESTON, WV (AP) — Mingo County's school system will remain under state control.

The state Board of Education on Wednesday reviewed a report conducted in March by the Office of Education Performance Audits that cited improvements in curriculum development, instructional program and the school calendar.

But the report said problems still existed in areas of finance, personnel, facilities, transportation and policy development.

"While we are encouraged to see the progress made by the Mingo County School System, there is more work left to be done," said board President Gayle Manchin. "We want Mingo County to know that the state board is here to provide guidance, resources and support."

The audits office is expected to revisit the school system in a year.

The board intervened in Mingo County in 1998 due to budget deficits, low test scores and a lack of leadership. The county regained control in 2002 before the state took over again in 2005.
