Lewisburg Mayor John Manchester will lead the West Virginia Municipal League for the next year.

The league selected him during its 44th annual conference.

Manchester had been the organization's vice president for the 2012-2013 term, and he also serves on the league's legislative committee.

"I am humbled by the confidence shown in me by my colleagues from across the state of West Virginia," Manchester said in a news release. "The Municipal League is the advocate for cities, town and villages and it is a distinct honor to lead a group made up of municipal officials who act daily on the front line of government."

The league's annual business meeting took place Aug. 9 in Charleston. Ann Worley from Beckley was selected Vice President Councilor, Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie was selected to be treasurer and Secretary Councilor will be Tom Oxley from Oak Hill.

McKenzie was chosen as the Quiet Strength award recipient, and Mount Hope Mayor Michael Martin received the Mayor of the Year award.
