Alleged "Crack" dealer arrested in Beckley

Efforts to get illegal drugs off the street lead to the arrest of a man accused of dealing "Crack."

The Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit teamed up with the Special Enforcement Unit of the Beckley Police Department to arrest Demetrius Burns, 21, of Beckley.  The arrest was made on Wednesday, Aug. 21.  Burns is charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Cocaine Base "Crack," Possession with Intent to Deliver that same substance and Possession of Marijuana.

Officers searched Burns' home on Hager St. in Beckley when the arrest was made.  They discovered 14 grams of "Crack with a value of between $1,000 and $1,500.  Officers also found 32 grams of Marijuana worth up to $600.  Burns could also be facing a Cultivation of Marijuana charge.  In the backyard there were 12 Marijuana plants growing in a vegetable garden.  Officers said that each plant had the potential to produce one pound of Marijuana.  Burns could also be facing a Cultivation of Marijuana charge.

Burns is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.  His bond was set at $100,000.
