Allen returns for 2nd year at Tazewell

Shane Allen took the head coaching position at Tazewell in June of 2012, leaving little time to mold his team. This year, things are different.

"This year, its more my team. I've been here the entire year. The kids have worked hard all summer all winter and they feel more invested in the program and so am I," said Coach Allen.

The bulldogs football program has lacked consistency with coaching, so the players are excited to have a repeat coach in Allen.

"I've never really had a coach to stay over 2 years because the past 4 years I've played ball it's been 4 different coaches so it's nice to have someone stay another year." said senior Jacob McReynolds.

Tazewell returns only 10 starters from last year, and only two seniors in that group.

"Carter Rasnick at fullback and linebacker, and Jacob Reynolds as fullback and safety," explained Allen.

Those two players haven't had a winning season in high school yet. But, they use that as motivation entering their last year.

"You got to hate to lose, you can't be ok with it, so you have to come out and want to win every game and hate losing so bad you won't let it happen anymore," said Rasnick.

The leaders of the team know many teams will overlook them this year, and they are OK with that.

McReynolds added, "I love being the underdog, it gives us room to improve, so that's how I take it. "

The bulldogs look to improve their 2-9 season from last year, and with more consistency in coaching and a fierce underdog mentality things are looking up for Tazewell.
