UPDATE: Arrest Made in Raleigh County Murder Investigation

BECKLEY -

A Beckley community can be at peace Sunday knowing the man accused of brutally murdering Deborah Dalton on Aug. 19 is now behind bars.

Aaron Portis was arrested Saturday night.  A close friend of Deborah's said what he thinks of someone who could commit a crime like this.

"This guy is a lunatic. He should not have put his hands on this woman to begin with," close friend of Deborah, Joshua Marshall said.

This is where the lifeless body of Deborah Dalton was found.  A source close to the investigation said Dalton was shot twice inside of her car. They said she was then placed underneath the car which was then driven down the hill with her body still underneath.

"Debbie was good people. I love her and I miss her. She's loved, she really is loved," Marshall added.

Although it's never easy to get over the death of a close friend, Marshall said now with Portis behind bars, her friends and family can rest easier.

"It's a good thing, it really is. People can come outside and kick back and relax and have peace of mind," he said.

Law enforcement officers fount cocaine and marijuana at Portis' home when they executed a search warrant there. Portis along with Brandon Burdette were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Portis is facing first degree murder charges. He's expected to be back in court some time next week. Both Portis and Burdette are being held in Southern Regional Jail.

An arrest has been made after a woman's body was discovered under a car in the Harper Heights area of Raleigh County.

Aaron Portis of Beckley was arrested by Trooper Martin with the State Police Detachment in Beckley on Saturday. Troopers executed a search warrant on Mr. Portis' home and discovered cocaine and marijuana on the premises. Portis and another man, Brandon Burdette were charged with possession of a controlled substance with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

59 News was the only news team there for the arraignment of Portis in Raleigh County Saturday night.

Portis faces first degree murder charges for the murder of Deborah Dalton who's body was found under a car earlier this month.

Both are being held in Southern Regional Jail.
