One man is clinging to life after a brutal late night beating Friday.

Kevin Figaniak, a Wheeling Jesuit student, remains in critical condition at Wheeling Hospital Saturday after being attacked Friday night near the corner of Locust Avenue and National Road.

Wheeling Police received a call just after 1:30 a.m. of a person lying on Locust Avenue and found Figaniak unresponsive when they arrived. A second victim was on the scene with Figaniak and told police the two of them were attacked by 3 or 4 men who then fled the area before police arrived.

"We're working with the University and his family has been notified and I believe are with him now," said Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger. "We'll have to continue to monitor it and we're looking for specifically any information from anyone who would have been out in the Edginton Lane, Locust Avenue, National Area last night that may have some additional detail for us and help us piece this together."

Chief Schwertfeger says the suspects are all white males in their mid-20s. Two suspects had brown hair and were wearing blue jeans and a third suspect was wearing a hat. 3 or 4 men fled the scene before police arrived. No motive is known at this time.
