Greenbrier West sets their sights high

Posted: Updated:

The Cavaliers conquered the defensive battle against Nicholas County Friday with a 6-0 win over the Grizzlies. The seniors plan to keep the momentum.

"I'm excited," said senior Garrett Smith, "I just hope we do really good and make it as far as we can and hopefully win a state championship for the last year."

They hope to follow in the footsteps of the wrestling team who won a state championship in 2013. After 3 straight playoff appearances, the football team thinks this is their year.

"We just want to get one step farther, we are looking for a state championship this year," said Chris Gabbert.

The upperclassmen have established chemistry that can only come with time.

Logan Brown explained, "We've played so long together we're just great now."

"We've been together ever since little league, we have a lot of charisma," added Gabbert.

The seniors are ready to make another playoff run and know exactly what they need to do to motivate the rest of the team.

"Just show them how hard you can work and what you can work up to. That it pays off," said Brown.

Greenbrier West will take on Richwood this Friday.
