Plans announced to merge Fayette County High Schools

The Fayette County Superintendent Keith Butcher announced plans to merge three high schools into one.

Superintendent Keith Butcher presented the details at Tuesday night's meeting which include school consolidations, new schools, and repairing old ones.

Butcher said the plans also include construction of new Mount Hope and Fayetteville Elementary schools. They also plan to add a new school, Meadow Bridge Elementary, for ages pre-K through 8th grades.

The board will renovate Midland Trail High School in order to merge it with Meadow Bridge and Fayetteville High Schools at its existing location.

The current Fayetteville High School building will become Fayetteville Middle School and Ansted Middle. The old Ansted Middle would be converted into Ansted Elementary School.

Meadow Bridge Principal John Henry said he's dealing with it all one day at a time and making sure the students stay at the top of the priority list.

"I hope this is the best year that they've ever had in their entire school career and when I open the school next year I will say the exact same thing to the kids, I want to take care of the year that we have," said Henry.

Butcher said the board will present this to the WV Board of Education next week.
