West Liberty University's Highlands Center will host the West Virginia District Export Council Export University from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6.

The event will serve as an exclusive training program for businesses to learn the skills, strategies, insights and contacts necessary to expand sales globally from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6.

Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., is scheduled to give the keynote address, speaking about the importance of exporting to West Virginia's economy.

"Whether you are just thinking about exporting or you're looking to expand your firm's global reach, our courses can give you the tools that are necessary to succeed," Ryan Walls, director of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center in Wheeling, said in a news release. The center is one of the supporting organizations working with the export council.

The West Virginia District Export Council, in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service Department of Commerce is planning the program, which is open to area businesses.

The session of export university will include a lesson on legal considerations, commercial diplomacy and advocacy; how to use the Internet as a tool to enter international markets and international logistics.

Businesses also will be able to schedule one-on-one meetings with any of the experts featured throughout the day, which include representatives from the West Virginia Small Business Development Centers, FedEx International and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Registration for the event will take place from 7:30-8 a.m. Sept. 6, and details can be found by contacting Leslie Drake at Leslie.Drake@trade.gov or 304-347-5123.
