Hospice of Huntington will dedicate a flagpole at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House to veterans of the past, present and future at 9:03 a.m. Sept. 11.

The time for the ceremony was selected because it was the moment a plane struck the second tower in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.

West Virginia Cabinet Secretary of Veterans Assistance Rick Thompson and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Herschel "Woody" Williams are both expected to be among the honored guests and participants in the dedication.

"This event is about my veteran brothers and sisters past, present and future whose sacrifices have kept our freedoms safe and secure," Hospice of Huntington Veterans Committee Chairman Ed Peckham said in a news release.

Hospice of Huntington reports that one in four dying Americans is a veteran. Hospice of Huntington has programs targeted specifically to veterans' needs, and it recently was awarded the highest rating in the "We Honor Veterans" program, which is a National Hospice and Palliative Care program in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
