The Catholic Charities of West Virginia Mobile Outreach and WellnessWorks Food Pantry will visit the Smithville Community Building in Smithville.

The food distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 11.

The WellnessWorks food pantry is part of the Mobile Outreach program, and it will deliver a variety of canned, boxed and fresh food to the area.

Families who live in Ritchie County and who also are at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level may participate as well as households that receive SNAP benefits from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

Families must bring proof of identification and proof of monthly income for the entire household to participate.

Contact Deborah Shaffer at 304-424-3457 for details or to register.

Catholic Charities of West Virginia's WellnessWorks food pantry program aims to promote healthy nutrition through education, direct service and advocacy. The approach is a new way to address the health and nutritional needs of individuals seeking food assistance.

Lifebridge AmeriCorps worker Karen Matthews, who has been working with the mobile food pantry, will lead a tree planting ceremony and brief program at 12:15 p.m. in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A fruit tree will be planted as a reminder of the importance of good nutrition to promote wellness.
