Geno gets first win with Jets

This NFL season has been long awaited, and if you are keeping up with Geno Smith and the Jets you know the road to his first start was a rocky one. But, in Sunday's game against Tampa Bay he proved worthy of the starting spot.

Smith had some mistakes in the first half including a fumble and an interception but finished the game with impressive stats for a rookie. He was 24 for 38 with 256 yards on the day.

His shining moment came in the 4th quarter when he scrambled before taking it himself. While Smith was running out of bounds, Buc's Lavonte Davis has a late hit on Smith resulting in a 15 yard penalty, setting up a game winning field goal. Jets won 18-17.

"No I wasn't looking for it, actually, just playing situational football we had enough time there where we could scramble and get out of bounds at least get us past midfield to give us a chance to get a field goal off," Smith said in a post game interview.

The Jets have a quick turnaround before taking on the Patriots on Thursday.

Another Mountaineer in the NFL is Tavon Austin. He made his first rookie debut for the Rams on Sunday.

The first round draft pick caught 6 passes for 41 yards in the Rams opening game against the Cardinals. Stedman Bailey is also on the St. Louis roster but did not see any time in Sunday's game. A big 4th quarter gave the Rams a 27 to 24 win.
