A special birthday was celebrated Friday in Hinton.

A woman who served our country turned 100 years old. Julia Marchinsin was a ship nurse during World War II.

A representative from the Governor's office surprised her with a visit and a certificate. She told 59News about her experience on the ocean.

"I was able to do what I was trained to do which is taking care of patients. At the same time, I was doing it sailing the oceans and seeing things I couldn't do on my own," Julia Marchinsin said.

Marchinsin attended one of the first nursing schools in the United States.
