A possible arson is being investigated in Fayette County after a home in the Prudence area caught on fire around 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, investigators have gathered enough evidence to support the theory that the fire was intentionally started by someone. One neighbor said that a home just a few streets down from Errington Road also caught on fire just a few months ago, but another neighbor says it's very uncommon to hear of crime in his quiet community.

"I've lived here for 30 years and we never hear of arsons so this is weird. It's not usual down here. It's a great place to grow up, I grew up down here. You've got all these woods and ponds and places to fish, it's just a great place to grow up," neighbor Jason Canaday said.

Deputies told 59News the home was unoccupied at the time, and the owner is currently in jail on drug charges. But Canaday said in his neighborhood drugs use not the norm.

"It's not like that, people like to drink a few beers down here but that's all. That's about all we do," he said.

Sheriff Steve Kessler told 59News their investigators have gathered information indicating the home was apparently burglarized before the fire was started. He went on to say that further evidence gathered indicated the fire started in the living room. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office have identified a person of interest in connection with their investigation, but no arrests have been made at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fire and Arson Unit of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Fayette County 911 Center at (304) 574-3590 or you can submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at (304) 255-7867.
