CHARLESTON (AP) — More than $1.3 million in federal grant money is on its way to 38 agencies throughout West Virginia to support anti-crime programs.

The grant funding announced Monday by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will assist state agencies, local governments and non-profits. Tomblin's office says the funding is intended to promote programs that have a "high probability of improving the functioning of the criminal justice system.

A list of the grant recipients shows that much of the funding is heading to support resource officers in schools and anti-crime task forces. In Bridgeport, $50,000 will support a task force targeting drugs and violence in Harrison County.

Funding totaling $86,000 has been approved for a similar purpose in Cabell County, while Charleston will receive $50,000 for its anti-crime task force.
