Arrest made in arson case near Oak Hill

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday that they had made an arrest in a case that began with a fire reported near Oak Hill.

The fire was at a home on North Errington Road in the Prudence area and was reported on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 a.m.  Crews from Oak Hill and Mount Hope volunteer fire departments were called to the home to put the fire out.  The Fire and Arson Unit of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office investigated what happened.  Officers were able to determine that the fire had been set on purpose in the living room area.  They were also able to determine that the blaze had been set to cover up a burglary.

On Monday, Deputies arrested Christian Warrick, 31, of Oak Hill.  He is charged with First Degree Arson and Nighttime Burglary.

Surveillance video of the scene apparently shows a man dressed in camouflage and blue latex gloves stealing items from the home.  The man then set fire to the couch.  According to a release from the Sheriff's Department, deputies were able to link Warrick to the crime from the surveillance video and from interviews with neighbors.

"The video surveillance video recovered from the scene was extremely important in permitting us to solve this crime so quickly," said Sheriff Steve Kessler.  "We also received substantial assistance from the residents in this area in the form of tips and leads that enabled us to quickly identify a suspect in this crime.  Without the assistance of the public, crimes of this nature can be extremely difficult to investigate."

Warrick was arraigned and released on a $25,000 bond.  The incident is still under investigation by the Fire and Arson unit of the Sheriff's office.  Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 304-874-4216 or CrimeStoppers at 304-255-7867.  Tips can also be anonymously left at the Sheriff's Office web site or Facebook page.

A search of Warrick's home turned up "several items of evidence" which linked Warrick to the crime.  The criminal complaint states that Warrick confessed to the crime when confronted by law enforcement officers.
