Jake Parker leads Meadow Bridge in 3-0 start

Posted: Updated:

It's week 4 of high school football and Meadow Bridge is a single-A school making a big impression early in the season.

Coach Larry McClintic has helped put Meadow Bridge on the map. The past 3 years they've made it to the playoffs. This year the Wildcats are off to a great start going undefeated in their first 3 games.

"Any time you can start the season undefeated at this point in the season it's good. Early on you need wins to build some confidence," said McClintic.

The Wildcats have put up an astonishing 140 points against opponents so far this season. A big contributer to that is senior Jake Parker.

"He's probably the strongest kid, the strongest running back I've ever had, he goes at about 195-200 pounds," Coach said of the senior.

Parker isn't just big, he's fast too, and he has the stats to back it up. Just 3 games into the schedule he's accounted for 829 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Yet, the running back stays humble.

Parker said, "My line is working hard, and everyone's working hard in the weight room so I like to thank them and give them a shout out so it's not all me, it's them."

His performance so far this season even earned him a nickname. SportsZone Anchor Dan Thorn coined the term "Jake the snake" and apparently it's caught on.

"I thought it was hilarious, everyone now calls me 'Jake the Snake', so it's pretty funny," Parker said with a laugh.

But, can he slither his way into another game-winning performance against Fayetteville on Friday?

"It's a county team, I don't think we'll have to preach too much to our kids about the importance of this ball game," McClintic explained.

Parker added, "It's going to be a tough one they're always tough and it's always close I'd like to come out with a win, I think we can if we play hard."

The Wildcats will take on a 2-1 Fayetteville team at home on Friday.
