UPDATE: Arson investigator looks into cause of Hilltop fire

A fire investigation is underway in Fayette County Thursday night.

The fire happened around 7 a.m. in the Hilltop area of Oak Hill. The homeowner actually lives in a home right next to her trailer that burnt down.

"So I open the door to come out to go to work and I see smoke coming out of the trailer," Laurie Fuller said.

Oak Hill, Mount Hope, and Fayetteville Fire Departments responded to the early morning blaze.

This fire broke out at a home on Mitchell Lane. That's just one street down from the scene of a fire on Saturday, on Prudence Road, a home which investigators said was burglarized and intentionally set on fire. At this point, investigators haven't ruled out arson in this fire on Mitchell Lane.

Even though precious belongings are now destroyed, Fuller told 59News she's grateful because it could have been a lot worse.

"It's just a lot of personal stuff. We have a home, we're good and we have each other. Nothing has been lost except for personal things that you can't replace," she said.

Fuller told us what she was able to save, and what might still be lost.

"I got my wedding dress out. We still have one cat unaccounted for but I think he's in the basement. Now I just have to get pictures salvaged," said Fuller.

A sad story almost became a nightmare.

"The flames and heat were really coming off the trailer and we were concerned for the house and that's why our main focus went from saving the trailer to saving our house," said Fuller.

Arson is not what Fuller believes to be the cause.

"I really think it's due to the wiring because it did have aluminum wiring in it and I did know that was a concern when I bought the trailer years ago," she told us.

As soon as the fire investigator determines a cause, we'll be the first to let you know. Stay with 59News on air and online as we follow this developing story.
